Students in Ms. Agunsday's 3rd Period US History classes have been working on coding Ozobots to travel to the different battles of WW1. Students researched the countries involved in WW1 and narrowed the battles down to eight. They coded the Ozobots to travel to the different battle locations and to declare the winner. Students dressed their Ozobots to represent either the Allied or Central powers. They also used the engineer design process to code.
Students in Ms. Ervine's classes created a hands-on activity on atoms. They created and labeled the atoms.
Six juniors and seniors from Jefferson and Washington High Schools have joined the third district cohort of the Grow Your Own Program, created by the WV Department of Education. This week they shadowed teachers at Page Jackson Elementary, Wildwood Middle, and Charles Town Middle, gaining valuable classroom experience. The Grow Your Own program allows students to fast-track their path to becoming K-12 educators through dual enrollment at Shepherd University. A great step toward building the future of teaching and education in our community! 👏✨
8th Grade students in Ms. Meadows and Mr. Madelo's classrooms completed lab stations where they examined the physical and chemical changes looking at certain criteria for comparison. Some of the lab stations included origami, sugar cubes and water, alka-seltzer and water, oobleck, baking soda and vinegar, and starch and iodine solution.
Don't forget, Parent Teacher Conferences are from 6:00-8:00 TONIGHT (10/29). If you would like to meet with one of your student's teachers, please reach out to them to schedule an appointment. Also, tonight, stop into the media center and check out this year's book fair which was delivered TODAY! Student's may start purchasing from the book fair in ELA classes later this week!
Students in Mr. Baker's Computer classes are working with Vex Robotics to create robots that can compete in Robot soccer. Students are in the process of building the robots and adding a manipulator to them that will allow their robot to grab, pass, and score goals in the Robot Soccer competition.

JCS Families: We anticipate transportation delays across the county due to law enforcement shutting down a portion of 340 due to a hazardous materials spill. WHS, HFMS, CWS, and BRC will be most impacted.
Students in Ms. Agunsday's 6th Grade Social Studies classes completed a map cartography project on the community where they lived. Students used different materials to give their map a 3D layout. Students labeled businesses and other landmarks while also creating a scale for their map.

📢 Join the Hispanic/Latino Association of JCS this Friday, October 18, for an informative presentation! Families are invited to learn about Canvas, Rooms, attendance policies, and the JVA Program, plus information about HLA! Enjoy music, games, and refreshments. Food will also be available for a small donation. All ages are welcome!
6th Grade students in Ms. Friend's Agriculture Science classes completed their end of unit flower projects where they used different materials to create flowers, labeled the different parts of the flower, and displayed them.
Students in Ms. Roger's Art class drew and colored dragon's eyes. Students worked on shading and detail for a small piece.
8th grade students in Ms. Triggs ELA classes completed a gallery walk on historical images as an introduction to their new unit on the Holocaust. Students chose the image that they wanted to respond to at each stop in the gallery walk and wrote a description of the image, what they learned from it, their response to the image and how they can connect to it.
7th grade students in Ms. McClelland's and Ms. Hall's ELA classes have been creating a character web for the novel they are currently reading, Red Scarf Girl. Students have been responsible for creating the cards and images that represent each character and webbing them together.

Experiment Time in 8th Grade Science! Students in both Ms. Meadows and Mr. Madelo's classes used their knowledge of microscopes to observe different samples under magnification. Students then completed a lab report on their experiment.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated National Beach Day today! Also, congratulations to our Rock, Paper, Scissors Winners. 6th Grade: Lilli Green and Julio Toro. 7th Grade: Ivy Brick and Leila Morgan. 8th Grade: Izzy Fetty and Mitchel Strankonsky. Students participated in a Rock, Paper, Scissor Tournament and other Beach Day festivities during lunch.
