6th Grade students in Ms. Smith's, Ms. Mc Clelland's, and Ms. Hollcroft's classes shopped in the AR store today. Students accumulated points and were able to spend their AR points on items.
6th Grade students in Ms. McClelland's classroom completed stations as an introduction to the class novel, The Summer of the Mariposas. Students played Loteria, participated in a Greek monster / creature scavenger hunt, analyzed quotes from the novel to make inferences and predictions, chose vocabulary from the novel to analyze using the Frayer model, and created their own Loteria cards.
6th Grade students completed a Whodunnit on World War I in their US History classes. Students answered 10 questions and received a clue for their answer. They used these clues to solve the whodunnit.
What an active and engaging day of professional learning! Elementary art teachers participated in hands-on activities today as they continue to grow as professional educators. It was just one of several district-wide training opportunities JCS was proud to offer staff on this professional learning day as they continue to perfect their skills in our schools and classrooms. Students in Ms. Agunsday's US History class completed a gallery walk on propaganda used during WWI. They viewed the propaganda, determined its objective, and answered questions.
Students in Ms. Purkey's 7th grade classes had a guest presenter from the STEAM WVDE Technical Assistance Center at WVU, Melissa Bane. Each group of students created a claw using hydraulics and different designs to pick up an item. Students used the engineering design process.
6th Grade students in Ms. Ervine's classes ended their biome unit with an escape room. Students answered questions about biomes to solve puzzles to get codes to help them escape.

Congratulations to the History Bowl Teams who competed in the Regional History Bowl. Members of the team are Brice Alawuru, Caleb Rice, Clayton Stolipher, Kameron Turner, Christian Ward, Joey Puzzini, Adrielle Fennell, and Yahaira Rojas. The team is led by Mr. Hoitt, 8th Grade WV History teacher.
FACS students in class with Ms. Meadows learned how to make grilled cheese sandwiches this week. Students have learned a different recipe for each meal.

6th Grade students in Ms. Ervine's Science classes participated in an engineering design challenge to create a heart out of Legos. Students received awards for the fastest, most colorful, most abstract, etc.
Shepherd University invites high school students and their families (including rising freshmen!) to one of two upcoming dual enrollment information nights on February 22 and March 12. Students will learn how they can simultaneously receive high school and college credits while getting a head start on their college education! Due to the forecasted inclement weather, all Jefferson County Schools extracurricular activities taking place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, are canceled. This includes extracurricular activities, athletic practices, and competitions taking place at home or away. The Regional Wrestling Tournament at Jefferson High School is rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18. All other rescheduled activities will be communicated at a later date.

Jefferson County Schools joins the Wildwood Middle School community in mourning the passing of Principal Jodi R. Brock, a dedicated and valued member of the WMS staff since 2008. WMS will honor Ms. Brock's memory with a candlelight vigil on Thursday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the front bus loop of the school. If you plan to attend, please enter at the WMS parent entrance and park in the side or back parking lots. If those lots become full, overflow traffic may park at Jefferson High School.
