We're excited to welcome 12 new international teachers to JCS as we continue preparations for the upcoming school year! Current international staff members were on-hand to greet and assist with the orientation of these new educators, who hail from Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and the Philippines through our partnership with Educational Partners International. CTMS Cheer Tryouts begin Thursday 5:30-7:00!
ATTENTION: The CTMS cheer and football tryouts scheduled for Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, have been POSTPONED in anticipation of severe weather this afternoon. They will be held tomorrow, Aug. 8, 2023. Thank you for working with us to keep our students safe.
Volleyball Tryouts begin Monday, August 14 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Students must present a completed sports physical dated after May 1, 2023 or on file. Students must also have achieved at least a 2.0 GPA from the Spring 2023 semester. Students should dress in athletic clothing, where athletic shoes, kneepads, and bring water.
Cheer Tryouts begin Monday, August 7 from 5:00 - 7:00. Athletes should wear black shorts, white shirt, and have hair in a high ponytail. Students must present a completed sports physical dated after May 1, 2023 or on file. Students must also have achieved at least a 2.0 GPA from the Spring 2023 semester.
Football Tryouts/Practice begin Monday, August 7 from 3:00-5:00. Prior to practice starting, there will be a mandatory parent/student athlete meeting in the school cafeteria on Monday, August 7. (Please do not wear cleats in the school.)

6th grade students participated in a month long Survivor Unit in Science Class led by Ms. Ervine and Ms. Lahman. In the unit, students were placed on teams and competed in different immunity and reward challenges, attended tribal council, and created a team totem pole. Students learned about and did activities on measurement, teacher trivia, scientific research, science domain vocabulary, experiments, STEM, etc.
Mark your calendars! 📅 We're pleased to partner with Harpers Ferry Family Medicine to offer free sports physicals to JCS students on Friday, June 9, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. JCS students wishing to receive a physical should report to Harpers Ferry Middle School to complete preliminary paperwork. May 19, 2023: An ambulance responded to Jefferson County School bus number 20-15 due to a medical emergency during its regular run from Charles Town Middle School. There is NO DANGER and the family of the student involved has been notified. The bus will be delayed this afternoon.
Students in Ms. Pulsifer's 8th Grade Science classes dissected crayfish today. Students found and identified the chelipeds, walking legs, digestive glands, stomach, nerve cord, teeth and other parts.
Members of the Class of 2023 return to their elementary and middle schools this week for one last stroll down memory lane ahead of graduation. Thanks to our CTMS community for lining the halls to welcome back these alumni from Jefferson and Washington High Schools!

Students in Ms. Pulsifer's 8th grade Science classes are studying the internal and external structure and anatomy of crayfish. Students have been drawing the crayfish, labeling the different anatomy, and learning about crayfish native to West Virginia. For the culminating activity of this unit, students will dissect a crayfish next week.

Escape rooms were in abundance last week at Charles Town Middle School. Students in Ms. Purkey's 7th Grade Science classes used their knowledge of plate tectonics to help a scientist escape a dangerous situation. Students in Ms. Agunsday's and Ms. Meadow's 6th Grade U.S. History Classes worked in groups to solve four tasks about World War II to get the phrase that would allow them to escape the classroom. Students enjoyed this fun and collaborative activity.
