Staffing shortages are impacting school systems across the country. For Jefferson County Schools (JCS), the shortages have significantly affected our staff time to complete critical behind-the-scenes work that goes into sustaining excellence in teaching and learning. Beginning October 15th, Jefferson County Schools will dismiss students 1/2 day every Friday. Staff will spend 3 hours completing all non-student supervision work (planning, SAT/IEP meetings, creating instructional materials, deep cleaning, etc). A full explanation of the factors leading to this change and expectations for staff in using this time can be found in the “Sustaining Excellence Plan” on the JCS website https://5il.co/101uz

Panther families, It is with great sadness that I announce the decision to postpone our traditional homecoming dance. After exploring several options that would allow the dance to proceed, we determined that it was in the best interest of students to wait and plan for an end-of-year dance this spring. We remain hopeful that health conditions in place in our school and county will improve by then. Panther athletics will still host the homecoming game against Harpers Ferry Middle School at 3:30 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Students are welcome to stay after school for the game; however, they will need their own transportation home. Adult admission to the game is $4, and student admission is $3. Students are encouraged to participate in numerous homecoming spirit activities occurring throughout the week of October 11-15. The scheduled activities are as follows: October 11- No School for Students - Teacher Professional Learning Day October 12- "Neon Out" Day - Wear your brightest Neon Attire October 13- Classic Movie Day - Dress like a character from an iconic or classic movie (ex. Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, Ferris Bueller, Jack Sparrow) October 14- Panther Thursday- Show your school spirit- 6th grade wear White, 7th grade wear Purple, 8th Grade wear Black October 15- Super Hero Day- Dress like your favorite super hero (comic book, movie, or real life super hero) We look forward to continuing a safe and successful school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Go Panthers, Nicole Reed Interim Principal 304-725-7821
