12/8/23: Staff at Charles Town Middle School called a precautionary lockdown this morning after seeing an individual on school premises they did not recognize. There is NO DANGER to students. Staff quickly identified the individual as an approved contractor doing work on-site. We appreciate the quick action by our staff and community. Learn more about how we keep our schools safe at www.jcswv.org/safety.
Students at Charles Town Middle School learned about the Philippines, the country where Mr. Madelo (8th Grade Science), Ms. Sinoy (8th Grade Math), and Ms. Narsolis (7th Grade Science) are originally from. The teachers put together the presentation that included information about their country, games, and traditional food. The teachers also wore traditional clothes from their culture.
Happy Thanksgiving to our JCS community! We remain grateful for the privilege of serving your children.
CTMS Community:

We want to give a huge shoutout to our substitute teachers and service personnel on Substitute Educators Day! These members of our JCS community play a crucial role in the continuity of daily education by stepping in at a moment's notice to provide school or district-wide coverage wherever it's most needed. They are talented and adaptable individuals who are relied upon by administrators, teachers, and students. We're so grateful to all our subs for their important contributions to our educational community. Thank you! Interested in subbing for JCS? Visit www.jcswv.org/careers to learn more and begin your application!
American Education Week continues with a shoutout to our amazing team of service personnel! These folks hold a special place in our JCS community as they work to keep our students safe, healthy, and focused. We're grateful for the many different ways they support our students.
Students in Ms. Waybright's 7th Grade Math Classes have been solving math problems in unique ways this week. First, students solved real world problems about multiplying rational numbers. For each correct answer the groups of students came up with, they earned a piece for their Mr. Potato Head figure. Students created some fun figures at the end of the activity. Second, students investigated perfect squares and square roots using cheez-its. They represented the perfect square or square root by building and reducing their cheez-it structure.
As we kick off American Education Week, we're excited to highlight and celebrate the incredible people in our JCS community who contribute to public education! Our staff, students, and families are the heart of our community, and we're grateful to each of you for your role in creating and maintaining a safe, enriching, and fun learning environment. Keep an eye out this week for #AEW2023 celebrations throughout our JCS community!
Today we take time to recognize Veterans Day with respect, honor, and gratitude to all who serve or have served in our nation's armed forces. Thank you!

Students in Ms. Hall's 7th Grade classes created brain hats as part of their new ELA unit Brain Science. Students will use the hats to better understand Phineas Gage's injury and other brain articles read during the unit.
