Students in Ms. Kowalski's 7th Grade Ancient Civilizations classes completed an irrigation project to show how civilization developed through farming by creating levees and channels. Students as a class were tasked with building a levee to stop the river from overflowing and ruining their crops. They were also tasked with getting the water and silt to the reservoirs by building channels. Classes received points for the amount of water or marbles that made it to end of the river or into a channel. Students also learned about the importance of government through trying to work with each other to complete the task.

To celebrate Constitution Day and the end of Freedom Week, students in Ms. Kern's WV History classes completed an escape room where they worked together to solve puzzles to learn facts about the U.S. Constitution and those who signed it.

We’ve reached the halfway mark of the first nine weeks! Please check your student’s grades on Canvas, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact their teacher. Let’s work together to finish out this term strong!

HFMS Families: Just a reminder that today marks the midpoint of the first grading period. Please review your child's grades on Canvas and reach out if you have any concerns or questions.

Congratulations to Ms. Alyson Whitacre and the 8th Grade WV History Bowl Team! Skinner Law Firm donated $1000 to the team to help with travel and other needs. Ms. Whitacre is interested in using part of the donation to purchase a buzzer system for the team to use. Pictured below is Stephen Skinner presenting the check to Ms. Whitacre with the students and Mr. Vandell.

6th Grade students in Ms. Wagoner's and Ms. Schriver's classes created paper airplanes out of notebook paper, copier paper, and cardstock. The students used the scientific method to develop a hypothesis. Then, they flew the airplanes in trials to collect data. This is also practice for the Science Fair, so students will know the steps for it.

Students in Ms. Schriver's STEM class used the Engineer Design Process with a budget of $10 and classroom supplies to create some system that would allow them to launch and catch an object while they are six feet apart from their partner. Students creativity and resilience helped them in this project.
